Please be informed that Written From Travel is not intended for, nor marketed to, children aged 18 and under. As such, we do not knowingly collect data relating to children.

When visitors leave comments on the site, in addition to the data required on the comments form, we also collect visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.

An anonymised string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. Please note that browsers usually accept cookies automatically. You may opt out, or choose to be notified when a cookie is set by modifying your browser settings.

Where cookies are used to store login information, associated with comments or contributor accounts, please be informed that these cookies will last for one year. If you have an account and you log in to this site, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. Who we share your data with

We may share your personal data with the select third-parties set out below:

For the purposes of the Written From Travel newsletter service – including analytics and compiling mailing lists – your information is shared with MailChimp, an email marketing platform.

How long we retain your data

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognise and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

For users that register on our website (if any), we also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.

How we protect your data

We undertake appropriate security measures in order to maintain the safety of personal data. Your personal data is contained within secured networks that are only accessible by a limited number of persons who have special access rights. All persons with access rights are required to keep the data confidential.

Third-party links

Please be advised that we may include links to various third-party websites, application and plugins. These third parties have independent privacy policies for which they, not Written From Travel, are responsible. Accessing those links may allow third parties to collect or share your personal data.

We encourage you to read a website’s privacy policy upon access. We also welcome feedback about third party links used on our website.

Advertising

We may use Google Adsense integration in order to show you personalised advertisements. This integration involves the use of cookies to provide personalised advertisements based on your online activity. Please see Google’s advertising principles HERE.

What rights you have over your data

You can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we correct or erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.
